Given the success of our previous blog on ‘3 things you didn’t know about butlers’, we’re back again with a round-up. Here’s 3 of TV & Film’s Most Famous Maids:
Joseph is most famous for his role as Geoffrey Butler on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The world famous show, responsible for giving Will Smith his first big acting gig, Tyra Banks her acting debut and introducing Will to Jade Pinkett Smith (his wife) provided a huge platform for Mr Marcell. Joseph was one of the few British cast members and spent 6 years as a regular in the NBC sitcom. Joseph went on to appear in famous UK shows such as Eastenders, Holby City and A Touch of Frost. Given his appearance in such a famous show, that had huge impact on the careers of some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Joseph Marcell is a worthy member of the most famous list.
Jennifer Lopez is widely regarded as one of the most successful entertainers ever lived. She has been successful in the dancing, acting and singing world. Most famously, Jennifer appeared in the 1997 blockbuster ‘Anaconda’. A film that is widely regarded as her first big hit, despite having appeared in multiple films previously and dancing for stars like Janet Jackson. Jennifer played Marisa on Maid in Manhattan, a film produced in 2002, that grossed $94,011,225 domestically and $60,895,468 elsewhere ($154,906,693 in total). A commercial success, considering the $55,000,000 production budget. This was released a few years after her rise to fame but it still deserves a mention. It’s not often you’re able to credit an A Lister for their performance as a maid. Jennifer has since starred in films that gross over $1Billion in total, appeared in American Idol, been the face of L’Oreal, toured worldwide and had several hits in the charts. Not bad for ‘Jenny from the block’.
“Robin was a lightning storm of comic genius and our laughter was the thunder that sustained him. He was a pal and I can’t believe he’s gone.” - Steven Spielberg
“To watch Robin work, was a magical and special privilege. His performances were unlike anything any of us had ever seen, they came from some spiritual and otherworldly place. He truly was one of the few people who deserved the title of ‘genius’.” - Chris Columbus
Robin Williams was an American actor and comedian. One of the best. Robin was incredibly talented and loved by all. Sadly, as we all know, Robin took his life on August 11th 2014 after a courageous battle with depression. Despite the world’s tragic loss of one of life’s greats, we’re determined to let the positives shine. Robin played Mrs Doubtfire in a stunningly successful movie that has been dubbed ‘comical genius'. A film that catered for all audiences, providing a brilliant mix between comedy and interesting storyline. The film was so good in fact, the $25,000,000 production budget was dwarfed by a staggering $441,286,195 gross globally. $20,468,847 being in the opening weekend. It’s no coincidence that Robin was the main character in this movie and went on to produce many more successful movies. Robin is undoubtedly up there with the most famous maids ever. Mrs Doubtfire will be a constant reminder of Robin’s talent, may he rest in piece. As The Academy so aptly said, ‘Genie, you’re free.’
