Salary is £800npw.

Essential:

BOTH to speak fluent English

BOTH non-smokers

BOTH to enjoy dogs and horses

Both to be good, confident drivers of manual cars on country lanes

Clients are an informal household with very high standards - specifically to the cleanliness and upkeep of the entire property. Location is based 45 minutes drive (& train) from central london. Nearest tube (Metropolitan line) is Rickmansworth. Nearest mainline station is Watford Junction. Both stations are 10 minutes drive away. It is a quiet rural location (nearest shop/post office is 1 mile).

Clients visit their grown up children as much as possible. Therefore, the couple need to be flexible if we are going to visit the children - and be available to look after the animals. Clients will provide as much notice as possible, but it may be as little as a week's notice.

Principles have 2 rescued dogs, both 10yrs old - a greyhound and a collie. They are much loved family pets. They are walked twice a day (usually 8.30am and again 1 hour before darkness) in the fields and woods surrounding the property. The couple will live in the main house in Clients' absence. The couple should be comfortable walking the dogs on their own. Both persons must be compassionate towards animals - the dogs are getting older and will need more care around them (they can slip on wet floors). One dog is epileptic but it is controlled with medication. The couple must be comfortable administering drugs prescribed by the vet.

There are 4 very little ponies - all rescued and un-rideable. A groom is employed 6 mornings a week who is responsible for their welfare. The groom has been employed by us for 17yrs. In our absence the couple will muck out on Sunday mornings. At the end of every day (after the dogs 2nd walk) the ponies' droppings are collected, and the ponies stabled/fed/watered - if Principal is am home she will do this, but if not then the couple will need to do this. No prior horse knowledge is required whatsoever - but a genuine love of animals is essential. The couple must be comfortable around horses.

There are 5 ensuite bedrooms, and contemporary furnishings. The garden is approx., 2.5 acres, and the field with stables is also approx., 2.5 acres.

There is an indoor pool complex with gym - the couple will be responsible for the upkeep of the building and it contents (but not have use of it). There is a pool maintenance specialist visit every other week.

Hours are generally Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm, except in our absence when flexibility is required.

There is a gardener 1 day a week at this property, and 1 day a week at our other large property (the same one for about 21 years). The couple will take instruction from the gardener for jobs to be done in the garden throughout the week.

There are also 2 local, small tenanted properties - the couple will be responsible for liaising with the tenants and carry out repairs as appropriate. We also own another local property of a similar size to the one in which we live. Renovation of this property is almost complete, and we expect this to be rented out. The couple will take instructions from the gardener regarding garden maintenance for that property too.

No assistance is required for entertaining.

No cooking is required whatsoever.

Driving will be limited to errands and occasional airport runs.

Principals are looking for a couple who take instructions well, but who can also use their initiative. They must be self motivated and take a logical approach to tasks given. They must be good communicators - able to admit when they need specialists help. They must be proficient in the 'basics' (painting a room, sew on a button).

The couple will have sole responsibility for all household cleaning. When the children are in residence, this includes all washing and ironing of clothes worn by 5 people on a daily basis, towels, bedding, etc - the amount of laundry should not be under-estimated. In addition, top to toe cleaning of the property as appropriate (carpets vacuumed daily, wooden floors washed - the dogs can get muddy paws, and moult, so floors can on occasion need cleaning a.m and p.m. All bathrooms to be cleaned as appropriate. There is ongoing DIY/maintenance as with a property of this size. The gardens also need maintenance. When the children are not in residence, there is obviously far less cleaning of rooms & laundry and it would be helpful if at that time both persons can help in the garden.

The staff accommodation is a self-contained 1 bedroom apartment (25metres from the house). There is a bedroom, office/dining room, living room, kitchen and bathroom - fully furnished. All utility bills are paid for. If the couple would like a landline, this would be at their expense. The TV has 'Freeview'. There is a small garden area (not private). Salary is £800?pw joint, paid gross.

If we are away at weekends/Bank holidays, the couple will be asked to take time off in lieu in the week before or after our return. If 2 weekends in a row are worked, they will be asked to take 2 days off midweek before and after Principles' return- rather than 4 consecutive days off. They will only be asked to work on weekends in Principles' absence (for pets and security).

Main Duties:

All household cleaning (house and laundry)

Generator to be kept full of fuel in case of power cut

All cleaning (wherever possible) to be carried out in the mornings, leaving the afternoon for laundry and errands

All ironing to be done during the week and not carried forward after the weekend
